Step in ceiling
May 5, 2014 in Design Dilemma
I am joining 2 rooms to make one. But the ceiling in one is 10mm lower than the there would be a step in ceiling. How can I disguise this?

One solution would be to create a coffered ceiling in the room with the higher ceiling with the lower portion of that ceiling matching the adjacent ceiling. ( another term for coffered ceiling is tray ceiling )

Or you can just let the ceiling step down and it will probably look fine..........

Or a third option is to put a false beam across at the place where the ceiling drops to disguise the 10mm.....

We had this issue too
I would put a bulk head around the outside of the room and then put a dividing bulk head in the centre where the two different height ceilings meet.
I'll upload a photo soon to show you what I mean
