Is using concrete instead of tile to finish a steam shower ok?

We are planning to update our master bath, including taking all the old tile out of our steam shower. We are seriously considering building a concrete finish for the steam shower. We think we'll have less maintenance without the grout lines of tile. Is using concrete a bad idea?

Hmm. How will the wall tile terminate at the bottom? It might look strange for it to end at a concrete floor.

Thank you for your interest. No tile whatsoever is planned. All concrete--ceiling, walls, bench, floor.

You can make a 12-inch concrete sample with the finish you are considering. Prop it in your current shower where it is exposed to soap, shampoo, etc. and leave it there for a week or two. Then try to clean it.

If you go that route finding the right sealant and maintenance will be the key. I am not sure about the idea since ideally you want non porous materials in steam shower.
