These are red oak floors, and very dense. Definitely durable.

Many of the new pre finished floors use Aluminum Oxide and are incredibly durable. A site finished floor is also still a great option, especially since it wont have bevels between the planks like a prefinished floor.

Prefinished hardwood floors are a great choice for a kitchen, what will determine the durability of your floor though is the wood you choose, not the finish necessarily. If you don't want dings and dents, stay away from Pine flooring, and look at White Oak or Hickory. Also consider Poly based prefinished systems like Carlisle Custom Coat, over aluminum oxide finish systems. Aluminum Oxide prefinished floors are almost impossible to touch up. Although many have a 10-20-50 year warranty, this doesn't warranty the floor from looking bad, and it will need to be touched up eventually. Carlisle Custom Coat is great because the finish is harder and more durable, but also easy to touch up, you can touch your floor in a matter of hours with no sanding required. This is nice in a kitchen where you get a lot more traffic than the rest of the house. Click here to learn more about our prefinished floors and contact us if you have any further questions.
