help choosing a sideboard for living room

hellocolorMay 22, 2014
What do you think of this sideboard for a modern living room? The living room is open on a dining room. This is the style of table and chairs I am thinking of getting for the dining room (pic 2).

They're both wonderful. The second one looks quite tall and the first one low and long. I think you need the measurements so you can use painter's tape to tape out the silhouettes on the wall to determine which one will work with your table height. Also keep in mind your mirror size if you plan to use it above the buffet. However, I think a great modern piece of art would be much better there. 5-5-75 is a good rule of thumb. Centers 5' above the floor or 5" above the furniture and no more than 75% of its width when hanging art. Here are a few versions in similar sizes to your choices. Don't forget to get a knock-out MCM chandelier.

Hello, hellocolor. I actually like the first sideboard better than the second. And I think it goes with the dining set you're considering, though I think you might do better there.

groveraxle, my husband insists on building a kidsproof dining table out of an ikea countertop like in the pic I posted above. However, I get to choose the legs : ) Would hairpin legs work better with the style of the sideboard (see pic below). I could also stain the table top in a darker color.

I doubt anything is truly kidproof, but let him give it his best shot. LOL Yes, I think hairpin legs would be better, but you can also buy mid-mod legs here: http://www.tablelegs.com/Legs/DiningTableLegs/Danish-Modern-Table-Legs-29.aspx

I like the first sideboard. I think the idea of hairpin legs would go well with the chairs you have, and would look better with the sideboards you have chosen.

Have you ever considered a darker wood?

Love the sideboard. The light fixture and mirror don't seem as well considered. Are you planning on changing them? Black or aluminum chairs around the table could be interfering as well.

Hi! I love the sideboard as well! I think that the only thing that is missing is more height differentiation on the sideboard. Here are a few ideas for you:
