I get that! the projects costs so much to do, then you have to make do when decorating or sometimes just waiting for the right piece to come along. Our entry way is still in progress, hopefully I can post finished picture someday!

@Edithsmom - it is, indeed. Most of it anyway; just before we moved in last year, we hired a restoration guy who replaced some tiles that were too damaged and a few that were missing. He also sealed them and that brought back some colour. There's just one tile he didn't manage to match (last in the corner) but it's barely noticeable. But overall it is gorgeous though, isn't it?!

And as a bonus, I've also attached a photo of my MIL's hall, she has the original 1890s Victorian tiling too.

dac_65. Nice entry! Interesting heating unit. Where are you located? I'm wondering if it could be painted the wall color to blend in? I didn't know they were made in a slimline design.

Hi LB interiors - thank you - I'm located in Surrey UK - sadly we don't have the space to play with that the lovely US houses have. This radiator is dark grey and I wanted it to act as a contrast and also balance with the dark wallpaper in the stairwell. You're right in that it's like an old school oil filled heater but slimmer. When the time comes to redecorate, I might well paint it the same as the wall for a change! :)

I love that idea for black and white art. I totally get your balance of color which is a good idea. But for me, I would like the art to be noticed more than a heater. It is a large solid amount of dark gray. It still might appear to be the focal point of that wall : ( I think heaters are a decorating non beauty element in a room : )

Better.
When I first viewed our house (19 years ago) I said one thing "Wow, that's a lot of doors!" When you opened front door you were greeted with three doors. To the right a closet door, to the left air handling closet, in the center a pass through bathroom. They were lined up right next to each other. It was like walking into a game show. " door #1, door #2, or door #3!"
We got rid of the center door, and made it into display shelves. On the bathroom side we made a much needed linen closet.

MissingInAction! There used to be a built-in bookcase by the front door, but I awoke one Christmas morning and took a sledgehammer to it and really gained visual space in the end. I plan to lay hardwood when the budget will allow and am thinking of closing off the original front door with a glass door that doesn't open and switching the main entrance off the patio, since that's where most people enter anyway. Would love houzzers feedback!

Cute. A black metal open-work plant stand, an upright piano, a small table for storing scaves and some decorative pieces and a wall shelf above with pegs for hats and 3 small drawers for gloves. My entry was created from a corner of the front porch and it works really well. So glad someone (else) did this home improvement!

Hi Zarina. Just saw you on '...one word for your entry' post. Yes you need to declutter, since it is the entry to your home. I would get a console table or shallow desk or console with drawers. Place that where the tall cubby bookcase-like unit is. Not too long, so that you can place it in the center or the wall with the mirror. Then move your mirror down above the console where the center of the mirror is about 62-63" from the floor. That creates a nice welcoming area. You can have a closed box on the table top for keys. One of the drawers can be for mail.

I would move the bench to the middle of that wall where it is now. Buy several square baskets that are like drawers. All the same size and are pretty. Place them under the bench for shoe storage. I would move the cubby unit in an area that would benefit better. Maybe a child's bedroom or a den or family room, use it in an office with a desk. Buy some fabric cushions for the bench top. Add 2 art pieces above the bench.

I would add a larger rug coming away from the door with some color. Color that is drawn from the art. I would try to hang the clothes out of sight. Just some ideas to ponder.

So that sounds grand, and it isn't grand at all . . just nice that I actually have one, since I've lived in places where the front door opens right into the main room (and even when the floor is different or they try to put a rail or levels . .a separate entry is a luxury that I appreciate). It is about 8 feet deep and 11 feet wide, and has a door to the master suite, and a small hallway to the family room and boys wing, and a 6' wide off set opening to the living room. So, on the rest of the walls, I've lined up art. It is personal and special to me - a set of 6 art prints that my husband brought home from a business trip. The artist is well known for prints that incorporate bright colors and sayings . . so the ones he picked out are special. Then I have a wall of tree silhouettes and a mirror, and one rubbing of a mayan stone my sister (the art history major) brought me back from the ruins near Cancun.
Personal. . . but lots to look at, and to read. Pictures to follow.
