Island with downdraft venting.
Downdraft Vent What to do with fumes when you want to cook on the island? I specified a downdraft vent that pops up only when it is needed. The ducting goes down and under the floor to the outside. Thank you!! Is the downdraft in the fully-functioning position in this photo?

Induction cooktop in island with pop up range hood
This photo shows a pop-up downdraft in the middle of its ascent. Note how the steam from the pot is already traveling to the fan grill, even though it's not fully extended yet. This option requires the duct to go parallel with the floor joists (otherwise it could weaken the load-bearing system), so the duct run could get very long, and you

Thanks...have you had feedback from the owners on how it pulls down from the burners in the front of the stove that are away from the downdraft. We

on how to buy hood vent
1. Buy the right vent hood. Vent hoods are rated by the cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air they can suck from a room. While formulas for determining how much power you’ll need vary, you’ll want to start by acquainting yourself with the basics. There’s no point in buying a hood that’s larger than your
won’t look right either. Gas ranges generate more heat than electric ones, and thus require more powerful vent hoods.Maxxing out the CFMs isn’t always a good thing. For example, a 1,000-CFM vent hood will suck the air from a 10-by-10-by-10 room in about a minute, then will lose suction unless you have an

Is this a hood with a recirculation kit & filter, rather than a duct to outside?

where did you find the ceiling mounted hood?
This is likely a custom hood. A number of ventilation manufacturers make products to be inserted into custom hoods, they are referred to as cabinet inserts
