keep a fridge and freezer cold on the inside serves the same purpose to keep heat from entering the unit as well. the oven would have to be on all day for it to make a difference in the fridge or freezer. so cooking at high heat for an hour or so causes no issues

What did you do to protect the TVand Video components from the heat when placing over the fireplace?
The depth of the mantle protects the TV, and the components are recessed into the wall, so they do not get any heat from the fireplace.
