What type of material? (Aluminum or stainless steel or other) How thick are they? How far do they extend from the wall? How much is inside of the wall?
Yes, the steel embeds were flush with the surface of the concrete. There was no skimming or concrete. Everything there was in the formwork. Again, a fabulous job

What type of and size are the steel columns and beam? Thanks!
This is a structural steel moment frame. The size and thickness was determined by the Structural Engineer in order to support two different roof planes and to resist potential lateral

More three-part (two columns, one beam) framing happens in this example, where a large opening between the kitchen and dining is formed from steel in line with the wall. Note how the detailing of the beam-column connections give an industrial appearance to an otherwise minimal interior.

Steel + WoodLike concrete, steel is an engineered material. But unlike concrete it appears light and very precise, a result of its fabrication process. Steel is often combined with wood for both aesthetic and practical reasons. In this case the wood gives the ceiling plane a warm brown tone, contrasting
contrasting the cool gray industrial steel structure. Practically speaking, wood allows us an efficient means for fastening common building components (made of wood) to the steel and also a means for insulating it. While extremely strong and able to span great distances, steel is also an excellent conductor

Questions4
How do you go about painting the exposed ceiling? Is it sprayed and do you require a different paint for hot air ducts? Thanks
The previous owners had designed the custom kitchen, which has maple cabinets and stainless steel countertops. The textural exposed ceiling and industrial pendant lights help to offset the sleekness.

Are you using an acid? Is it a spray? The cold rolled steel already has some of that look on it, so I am curious how you finish it. Love it.
This is a" blued " finish on cold roll steel. We do this finish quite a bit on the fireplace surrounds we build. Its very organic looking and very durable.
You could try emailing the architect or designer & asking them for specific info. It looks like steel sheeting w/ some sort of finish.

factories and mills had steel columns, beams and trusses. As with the exposed building systems, there was little reason to cover up these structural necessities.
