Hi, thank you for the feedback so quickly. I am actually looking for the material that you used on the top of the fire pit. Is it granite??? I don't see any seams. Did you have it cut from one piece of granite? Is it polished or honed? Thank you so much!

A few steps away from the patio, a sculptural Cor-Ten fire bowl by John T. Unger modernizes the ritual of sitting around the fire. The kids love to hang out here at night and play cards or make s’mores. The couple completed the renovation in the fall of 2012, so the landscaping is still a work in progress

How deep is the fire pit?
The black area is actually crushed slate. It makes a great crunching sound when you walk on it. The border is river stones. The fire ring is extra stone found around the site, and leftovers from the chimney construction. Thank you for the great question!

Use refiner granite for fire pit chair base
Sit by the fire. This is another no brainer-especially for cool nights. Even if you haven't managed to move your soirée from the living room to the patio as quickly as you would have liked, as soon as the outdoor fire pit is lit, everyone will congregate. Make sure there is plenty of comfortable seating
seating as most people will want to stop and enjoy the fire for as long as possible.
The fire pit is actually an iron "sugar kettle" and is from Carolina Kettles. The adirondack chairs are custom made of sustainable Ipe wood.
The simplicity of a fire bowl submerged up to its rim in the sand lends itself to the serene atmosphere in this outdoor sitting area. This one is wood burning, but it could also be fueled via natural

What manufacturer produced the fire pit bowl?
what exactly is the patio? A gravel pit? How was this constructed?
Its a custom fire pit feature. We used a planter bowl from Royola Pacific Arts and Crafts and ran gas and a drain line underneath the bowl.

There are a number of options that will work for you. If you google, "fire pit kettle" or "fire pit bowl", lots of options will present themselves. We had a recent customer install a set of our Artistic Metal Logs in a Sugar Kettle -- turned out really nice. See attached picture :-)

understated way to do a fire pit
I like the bench around the fire pit. Could use water feature instead of fire pit
One very creative addition to an outdoor space is the L-shaped fire pit. The geometric design set against the wild flames is gorgeous. And, of course, by putting benches on both sides of the fire pits you get a lot of function out of this shape.

I want to place gas fire pit below trees in my backyard. Any risk to trees like this one secondary to the heat from a gas fire pit?
Each fire pit will have its own clearances to structures however, trees are usually not a concern as the heat dissipates as it rises.
Fire put bench with water feature.
possible fire pit idea- build out from wall in corner??
The garden built up behind the fire pit
What size do I need? The size of your fire pit is something to consider based on your intended use and guests. A small one won’t give off enough heat for more than a few people yet a design that’s too large could deter conversation because people will have to raise their voice to speak across it.
