9'-0" The soffit is wrapped in wood and is not solid. The soffit projects out 2'-0". The beams on the ceiling are simple applied moldings. So this idea can work for you 9'-0" high ceiling. The soffit could be set at 7'-9" and should only project out 12"-14" max. This should all be verified for clearances
