underneath the teak is a shower pan or a slope towards the drain. Is the whole bathroom floor is covered by a membrane of some sort? I the rest of the floor raised?
likely a wood grate floating over a recessed tiled floor with a drain below. Teak is a good wood for this sort of design, it's an oily wood that handles wet places better than most, but will still need to be cared for.
Teak is a good choice, as I have also heard of people using ipe. I know that ipe tends to turn ash grey if not treated regularly.
