Good input. My landscape architect recently explained that the River Birch, like many other trees can best be planted near a foundation or in lawns if they are protected by a root barrier. Apparently the root barrier helps the roots grow downward. This River Birch is certainly
likely betula nigra , or "River Birch". It has a cinnamon tint to the peeling paper bark, and has a loose, airy, fernlike structure.
