Any pair of porches is a great addition to the front of a home, but if they wrap around, all the better. Wraparound porches guarantee plenty of space for sitting areas, dining spots and of course, that all-important hammock for catching an afternoon nap.
Speaking of Lowcountry, double-decker porches dominate the area. If you've ever visited Charleston, South Carolina, you've seen that many of these go down the side of the house, while the narrowest part of the house faces the street. This is because of an old tax code that had a formula based on a home's

Beautiful house - who wouldn't love coming home to this every day? Makes me happy just looking at it! Is the front porch flooring Ipe and, if so, what stain was used to achieve that color? Love it
What type of carpenter would i look for to make something like this for my front porch. Also what type of wood was used to the porch floor and steps. I live in northeaster New Jersey. Are referral would be appreciated.
What would you recommend for the structure on the second floor on top of a garage placed on the right of the porch? A dormer similar to the left side? Should the garage be flush with the porch or the house?
Is the front porch deck materials installed on joists like a normal deck?
The front porch is a typical wood construction a general carpenter should be able to build a similar porch. For this home we were hired as the Architect only. Siena Custom Builders, Inc. was the Builder.

GreenCraft for your comments, very lovely garden design
It's pea gravel. Usually stone centers have samples you can choose from for the color. Beneath the stone is a layer of weed fabric. Weeds do sneak through the fabric in time, but because this was an organic garden, I pulled them by hand rather than
Do you have a suggested plant list? Looking to do something similar with my Harvard, MA garden.

OK, so maybe not the steps. Still, the screened-in porch is a place
The house is laid out around a central square great room. There's a front porch, a screened-in porch, and two wings on either side of the great room — one wing is completely private from the rest of the home, and one is semi-private.

What is in the ceiling of this porch?
Beautiful porch! Can you tell me the depth of the porch and what brand ceiling heater you installed? Thanks!
front porch light and heat lamp??
love the "living room" on the front porch--nice and wide
This feels very much what your porch SHOULD feel like.
Heaters on sleeping porch double as light in cooler temps.
love this for front porch as well. Great heater
Keep the porch raised up off the ground. This will help to create a sense of security and allow you to look out over the neighborhood. But keep in mind that if a front porch is raised up 30 inches or more from the ground, code requires a 36-inch-high guardrail for safety.A high perch can help you watch
