Would love to know if the etched glass is just a standard picking up the grey/blue of the tile or does it have a special grayish hue to it. Beautiful

Yes. Frosted glass = big sticker
Yes, you can apply an opaque film that is similar to frosted glass, similar to the technique used to tint auto glass. Look under window tinting in your local yellow pages and ask for frosted glass.
