R'Mel - it appears random, but gardens like this need more attention than the "orderly" ones. As someone who has tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to create such ordered chaos, I assure you there is nothing random about the plant placement here.

Hi Kelly - In this garden, there is no edging. The gravel does mix with the beds a bit, but over time the plants have filled in over the edges. I don't typically like to use off the shelf edging, and prefer steel edging that is fabricated onsite. It looks great and is very durable.
