Kitchen counter space/microwave-vents on top of microwave

I'm not sure I understand your question... What I can say is that a 3" drawer would not yield you much storage space at all. The construction materials of the drawer box alone, inclusive of the carcass, glides, and drawer bottom, would most likely eat up 1-1/2".
