minimalism, we should look to the Zen gardens of Japan. The perfectly placed rocks set in immaculate gravel, raked into swirling patterns, are pure minimalism.Japanese gardens were created in the pursuit of spirital balance, but in the West this has become a garden style.

Who helped you design the garden? It s beautiful. Is it all sunny perennials?
Hi. Would you happen to have a layout of the garden and types of plants? It is beautiful. Much gratitude. Anika
R'Mel - it appears random, but gardens like this need more attention than the "orderly" ones. As someone who has tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to create such ordered chaos, I assure you there is nothing random about the plant placement here.
You may not be ready for a complete loss of lawn and permanent paving, and that's fine. Instead, create a cottage feel in a large garden bed, and let the plants billow over onto the sidewalk to soften the space.

Two rams guard this entry point in an Italian garden. Historically, Italian gardens were full of well-placed statues and fountains.
Look closely at this photo. It's possible the whole composition is an illusion. Is that a glimpse of a secret garden through the "gate," or is that a divided light

This formal-style topiary garden is stunningly enclosed with green walls and overlooking trees. The combination of stone and lush topiary hedges is always a successful one.
