conservative fires and only occasionally, it is unlikely that you will ever have a problem, even with the situation shown above. If you use the fireplace day and night continuously, there may be a problem, as radiant heat warms up the entire wall. The worst case scenario is with an unvented gas fireplace
If the TV is recessed into the wall and there is a mantle above the fireplace (deflects fire heat from going straight up), you should be ok. The picture above is not a good idea if it a wood fireplace.
