Almost all tile is nearly impervious to staining - it's inherent in the process.
etc. In terms of direction, that completely depends on the shape of the room and what you're trying to accomplish. If you have a skinny room, lay the tile perpendicular to the long wall. This will help the room look wider. Hope that helps.

Most likely this is Thassos white marble and Absolute black granite. I'm currently putting this in my home, and have been told this is what everyone uses. Solid black marble tiles are hard to find!
