kitchen? I was thinking of Brazilian walnut. Everyone is pushing me to do porcelain tile but I really love wooden floor in the kitchen. What are the pros and cons between the two and what do you suggest?
I have heard it called that. Different suppliers name the granites different things. the kitchen sink counter is a soapstone.

I really wanted to use marble but was just too scared about etching etc. So I chose a granite called Andromeda White also known as White Sri Lanka. It is basically white with gray swirling
You should look at Quartzites. Quartzite is a natural stone (as opposed to man made "quartz") quarried like granite or marble. It tends to look like marble, but is usually stronger than granite. Here are three of my favorite quartzites: ... ... ... OR if you just have to have marble in your kitchen
