sure the gravel is not too small. Some pea gravel or similar can be small enough to catch into the sole of shoes (especially sport / running shoes). I have found that as long as the stones are anywhere from 0.5" and up, then it is safe and it won't get caught into the sole of the shoe and possibly tracked
