Your best bet would likely be a diamond grinder with a dust free vacuum. Linoleum adhesive usually grinds off fairly effortlessly with the right diamond tooling. Talk to your local concrete supplies store about what they rent for stand up diamond grinders and what they recommend for this situation
situation, even some home depots are starting to carry excellent grinders in their rental departments. Make sure to wear a dust mask and keep your vacuums filters clean, the dust from the grinding is not good for the family, perhaps consider barricading the area off with poly!

consider the 4x8" for $8.00SF on the shower wall: http://www.thebuilderdepot.com/cama4x8.html Or consider a 12x24" larger format tile for the shower wall for just $9.95SF: http://www.thebuilderdepot.com/cama12x24honed.html Finally the last image shows all the Hexagon formats we sell in this whiter Carrara
The look of this bathroom with the whiter base is the exact look the Carrara Venato Collection aims for. Pictures attached. The first two pictures are of 2x2" Hexagon Honed. $11.75SF: http://www.thebuilderdepot.com/venatohexhon2.html (but also available in polished)

Please take the time to read it. http://clawsonarchitects.blogspot.com/2012/08/what-color-is-that-how-to-select.html I will also share the color …half-heartedly, not because I don’t like to share, but because I fear that it will not work out based on what I explain

Yes, but it's a messy, labor-intensive job. The floor grinder would grind away all remaining mortar or glue and then they could stain the concrete and then the concrete is polished. It could be $10-$15 per square foot depending on the layout and complexity, etc -- lots of work, but beautiful...
