Do you have squash in the raised garden? How do you keep it from spreading outside the wall
Is the wood pressure treated or stained or what? How do you keep all the stones in the garden? Care? Thanks!
I am loving this . I'd love to recreate this in my tropical garden. I have lots of concerns regarding termites getting into the wood. Any suggestions regarding the best wood to use ?

13. Plant an edible garden. Even with just a small amount of outdoor space, you can grow a few pots of veggies, like lettuces and peppers. If you have more space and time, you can grow a significant amount of your own food at home. Growing your own food can be a satisfying way to eat fresh and healthy

I love your planter boxes. What would you recommend for a very small yard. We love in a townhouse with little space but would love to grow vegetables using a planter box as I do not want to use the existing soil. Thanks!
It really depends on the size. Elevated or raised planter boxes are the key to overall success when growing veggies or herbs as it allows for good soil depth and the ability to bring in new soil. We use a product in Vancouver called Transform Soil. Very good soil
Are there plans for the raised garden boxes? They look perfect for our yard in Florida...

These raised beds allow the homeowner- an avid vegetable gardener- to have ample space for a number of crops in a beautiful space. Raised beds are a great way to grow veggies in the Northwest for a variety of reasons. They drain well because they are elevated and are typically filled with a lighter soil

consider letting your grass grow longer
If you love the look of grass but don't need a baseball field (most folks don't, unless you live in Iowa), consider letting your grass grow longer — or converting to native, water-sipping grasses like blue grama, buffalo
will it grow in the shade?
grass grow longer — or converting to native, water-sipping grasses like blue grama, buffalo and sideoats grama (just a few among many). Lots of places also sell no-mow seed mixes designed to be drought tolerant with slow growth habits but that mimic traditional lawns. If you let your lawn grow taller

Peace in the Shade
Thank you! It's my favorite place in the garden. The trellises are wood. I purchased them five or six years ago (not sure you can still get them) at Lowes and painted them myself. Happy gardening!

usually 6 ft to 12 long. These are 10 ft long. Have fun growing veggies! If you are in the area I am hosting my 4th annual "Life in the Alamo-Danville Garden" garden tour fundraiser on May 3rd. See my website for more info. You can see this veggie garden first hand since it is on the tour.
Hi there! Thanks for the question. I like making garden boxes 24" high so it is easier on your back when you are working on them. I am an avid veggie gardener myself and I have experimented with dimensions for ergonomics in comfort while working on them. I make them 4 ft wide so you can reach half way
