Craftsman Home
The copper rain chains were purchased from www.rainchains.com.
What is this thing hanging from the gutter? We just bought a Craftsman so I'm looking at pics to get ideas and I've seen quite a few of these things that look like upside down cowbells. Having just moved to the Midwest from Virginia, I have never seen these before. Thank you
I am in Ohio and the rain chains in the picture freeze up all the time in the winter. It is actually pretty neat to see them turn into columns of ice. They have been up for 8 years
rain chain and the gutters blend nicely with the house
the rain chains. Not sure it fits nor its function. Reminds me of life in japan.
What originated in Japan hundreds of years ago, the kusari doi, or "chain gutter," is a simple way to carry rain to the ground in an aesthetically pleasing manner. The Japanese have used these chains on temples and homes over the years with the sole purpose of embracing the beauty of a rain-filled day

Why is there a chain hanging from ceiling? What is the purpose or the functionality of the chain? Thanks!!
but I can tell you that what you're looking at is called a "Rain Chain". Rain Chains are a modern replacement for traditional gutters. They are hooked at the drainage point of a roof, so that when it rains, water runs down the chain toward the ground. There are two options at that point: 1) the water
other reasons (and it's obviously free). The rain chains can either look like industrial chains (as in the photo above) or like a series of little cups stacked on top of each other, so that the water fills up one cup and it spills over the brim and down into the cup below. Hope this helps answer your

Chain holding end of desk up or use somewhere else... Gutter down spout
Cool desk - not so sure about the chains but love the base!
add the chains to shelf or even ropes to hang dining table top from ceiling and secure to floor
Interesting concept, which is supporting the table? The chains or the pillars?
I love the chains & the ladder
right rustic chain can be such a great substitute.

Our 1954 Mid Century Ranch Home, Napa, CA
Concrete pathway to front of house. We replaced ugly drains with rain chains made out of corten steel. Custom planter made out of corten steel.
Rain chains instead of gutters. Midcentury homes did not use as many gutters
Going gutter free. Midcentury modern homes are usually defined by the lines of their roofs and beams, making gutters unwelcome details. Rain chains (preferably connected to dry wells or planting areas to keep water onsite) can be a handsome way to direct rainwater.

What type of chains are used? Weight load? Brand? Where to purchase?
I'm building a similar bed, but I will attach two sides using lag bolts, and only one end will need the chain. Where can I purchase the chains? What type (gauge...is that how chains are rated?) of chains are used?
comes down on chains, rope lights for ceiling are mood lights under bed

project’s inception. They had simple cross bracing added above the ceiling level to accommodate the 300-pound weight of the beds. While four chunky chains carry the load from each corner, both beds are secured to the wall along their lengths, making them despite their appearance.
