Does the heat travel up the face of the fireplace? We are having this problem and cannot hang our tv there. Does the mantel help this issue?
There is some convective heat (hot air) with most fireplaces, and a lot with unvented gas fireplaces. Yes, a mantel shelf will help deflect some heat, but you also want to make sure that the shelf itself isn't placed where it will be a problem

Hi cgilly. There is currently no known way to stop heat in your house to travel thru ones walls or ceilings. Insulation merely slows down this process. similar discussions on here about the "TV over fireplace" topic, and the definitive answer is "Maybe". Some fireplaces do not produce much heat, and the amount of heat that gets to the TV will also be influenced by the mantel shelf below the TV. The TV might be fine. We don't recommend putting a TV over
n in mind, it would be worth talking to your local fireplace experts. In all the years we've been doing this, I've only seen one TV damaged by the heat from the fireplace, and it was an extreme situation (bad design).

This looks like the Heat & Glo QVI which is now discontinued. They have some other great big fireplaces though.

Is glass tile heat resistant? Is it safe to put above cooktop?
Glass is heat resistant. It's the adhesive that's used to install the tile that needs to be able to tolerate the heat. We don't want a tile falling off into the sauce pot!
