Questions2
Hi, I was not the designer but really liked this entry!
Our hall wouldn't be nearly this wide, but, there are ways to make a narrower hall look attractive.
Not ceiling but the hall, walls, windows, doors and floor.

A lot of good design comes from achieving appropriate scale and proportion in a space. The 13" version would definitely be the appropriate scale for your ceiling space. The 9" would feel too mini. Thanks!
photos lining the hall plus it's similar size to our hall
also (not like this) to work with the lower height restriction on the far south (outer) edge of hall.
If have to have a hall
Hall ceiling & light fixtures & wood floor color
+: Not the ceiling we want but we have a lower height restriction on the outer edge of the hall and are going to need to do a ceiling treatment also

the site of an old family summer cottage, nestled on a lake in upstate New York, rests this newly constructed year round residence. The house is designed for two, yet provides plenty of space for adult children and grandchildren to come and visit. The serenity of the lake is captured with an open floor

easy one. The hall is made of a series of squares in plan, each 6' x 6' wide (the answer to your question). The arches themselves are 5' wide, 8' tall and the thickness of the wall (or the arch depending on how you look at it) is 1'. I've also done this at a smaller scale of 5' wide hall and 4'-0" wide
I would if I knew- I did not make design decisions on that level, although the interior designers, Lawanna Wood (http://www.houzz.com/user/lawannawood) and Pamela Randall (http://prandall1.photobiz.com/?pageID=868717) both collaborated on the interior design for this house and might be privy to that
pecan as an equivalent to hickory as well). The darker potions that make up the "X" patterns and the squares are made of walnut though. They mirror the design of the groin vaulted ceilings above. The wood itself is solid and was hand scraped after being installed. Probably the best tool for communicating
