Do you know what type of granite it is? What is the name?
I live in the Boston area too and am considering soapstone but am worried about maintenance with three children. I will be vistting the Boston granite exchange and a slab yard in Lowell. Also considering jet mist

request a honed finish on absolute black granite. But judging from the photo, it looks great. Is there a possibility of it losing its color due to regular cleansing? Would we see liquid rings formed from glasses? Considering this for a 4' x 10' island.

true that black absolute granite turns chalky grey when honed?
We have consistently heard from granite sources that we should go with non-honed absolute if we don't want the "chalky" look, however, there are several examples on Houzz that show honed as a clean, dark, matte finish. We have been encouraged

reviews that honed shows fingerprints. The leathered does have a texture and is not smooth like honed or soapstone, but you could still write on it. We did honed on the edges because our fabricator said it would be difficult to match the exact texture as the top.
