Hi there. what is the trailing grass/leaves? Not the horsetail.

Horsetail is a cool, primitive plant, but very invasive! Plant in a container, or you'll regret it.

Hi We've never had a problem with the horsetail reed cracking concrete. The horsetail reed does spread so we make sure it's in a self contained planter. We built these concrete planter boxes
Giant horsetail (Equisetum giganteum) be sure to keep it in contained beds or containers, It spreads vigorously in warmer climates. Do not let them go to seed.
That is what it is. It can be invasive depending on where you live/climate...great looking, the reed itself is actually hollow.

Hi Dan, You are right, It isn't bamboo; it is called Horsetail Reed. Great looking plant that needs a lot of moisture to do well.
It's not bamboo at all. I found out it's called horsetail.

if you're referring to the plant along the house, it's Equisetum hyemale (Horsetail). I've seen it get to about 8' ht, but you can keep it trimmed.
