Houzz Tour: An Architectural Relic Thrives in the Heartland of Ohio
Wright's notion of compress and release. This photo peers down the front gallery, showing how the space narrows and the ceilings drop, perhaps indicating the transition to more private quarters.
This is how our house should be. No more central hall!
I like how the ceiling lighting is a triangle shape instead of the common circle that we usually see, the shadows makes for a very visually appealing hallway
The entry truly exemplifies Wright's notion of compress and release. This photo peers down the front gallery, showing how the space narrows and the ceilings drop, perhaps indicating the transition to more private quarters.

How high did you hang the lights above the island?
My kitchen is about 11 x 12 feet. How many 5-inch recessed
how can I get a schoolhouse light with a pull chain that is NOT for a ceiling fan?
I have an old farmhouse without a lot of wall switches. In the office, I'd like to put in a ceiling light with a pull chain, but no fan; they don't seem to exist. How to find such a fixture
have an 8 ft island and I bought 3 - 14 inch wide school house pendants. They seem too big. What would the recommendation be for and 8 ft island, how many pendants and what size if I would like 3 of them. Is going down to 12 inch a good idea or smaller? Thanks.
I'm a fan of the lights over the island... I might switch out the ones above the sink and the door, personally. If you add a bit of that darker finish color in the room though I think it'll work just fine! :)

How did you accomplish this color with the pecky cypress? Thank you
how was this color achieved on the walls
Anyone know how pecky cypress compares in price to mahogany, oak or other woods? Krantz?
I like how the stairs change width at the bottom, how you can run down the stairs from the corner, without having to go down, then around a newel post to the corner. Is this an option
Everything. Also How the steps extend out sideways farther than they need to.
7. How do I handle stairs that change width? You can continue your stair runner at a uniform width, allowing more and more wood to show, as in this photo.
How much distressing? These painted walls appear to have been scraped to resemble peeling paint. It is very dramatic in this minimally furnished

Love the stools and live in Denver, how do I find them?
We are copying your island and would like to know what is underneath your countertop besides a 24" cabinet and two posts? Concealed brackets? A pony wall? If there is. Pony wall - how wide is it? Is it reinforced somehow
kitchen is absolutely gorgeous and symetrical...something I would be very interested in doing myself....however as I look across the space I wonder how well it works as it seems as though there aren't many cabinets in there.
Hi. I like this layout. Could you please tell me how long the wall is that contains the stove, fridge and cabinets? I am wondering if I can fit equal size appliances and cabinetry along the primary wall

How do I choose between a breakfast bar vs kitchen table when I only have room for one?
How wide is your kitchen? I'd love to put a narrow table in my kitchen and get rid of my dining room. I'm in design phase and have a long but narrow kitchen - 27 X 12.8. Any thoughts
How long is the bench for the stove?thanks
You should weigh your needs....how many people will eat in the kitchen daily? Do you have a dining room? How is your kitchen space, large or small? Your answers might indicate which one you should go with. Good luck!
Island Table - how much space did you leave around it, and do the homeowners feel it's comfortable to work around?
I like how everything fit into small space with desk and sitting area

Bungalow Kitchen
Hi there - another person who would like to know how wide this kitchen is.
Love this kitchen. I read that it's 12' wide. How long is
How tall are the ceilings in this kitchen?
Love this kitchen! Can you tell me how much clearance
oil? I love the look of soapstone, but the sample I got (oiled) is a mess just from carrying it around for other kitchen selections. I can't imagine how scratched up the counter top will get in a working kitchen. Help me decide-the cabinets are coming in in 3 weeks!
incorporated into the design, perhaps in the back splash or on the floor. I would like darker color wood on the cabinets, and more glass on the cabinet doors. The lighting situation is a bit boring also, I like pendant lighting.

what is the demension of this room and how big is the island?
I would love to reproduce this! How is it done. Thank you
kitchen time and time again during our remodel for inspiration and to keep me on the right "design" track. Love how you thought outside the box in all aspects of your design. From the cabinet door handles to the island countertop. Thank you for sharing with all of us at Houzz!
Beautiful kitchen...can you tell me how the Absulut Black granite holds up to stains etc?
regarding the length of island and food prep. Is there a sink prep area near stove top? How would someone drain a big pot of pasta? I see the water spigot above the cooking surface, but not sure about sink prep.
first impression was the same as mmschwartz's; While I appreciate a big island's versatility, and the convenience of the pot filler, I couldn't see how functional this kitchen would be. Thankfully, there is another sink directly behind the camera, as shown from this angle: http://www.houzz.com/photo
