This modern classic chair is based upon a chair originally designed by the Greeks sometime around 400 B.C. They were called Klismos chairs, and they regained popularity in the 19th century when classical architecture and design came back into favor. The chair we're celebrating today, the Anziano chair, takes this true classic and mashes it up with modern materials and techniques. The result is a stunning piece with classic Greek roots, mid-century modern flair, and a futuristic feel that will endure for many years.

This modern interpretation of the Klismos by John Hutton for Donghia uses bent wood, simplifies things with a plain T-back, and celebrates the shape of the legs with an outline crafted of tubular steel. Hutton designed the chair in 1989, and it's already part of the Brooklyn Museum's Decorative Arts Collection.
Options include natural, warm cherry, brown mahogany, ebonized, ivory lacquer, midnight leather and cognac leather.

Becky Harris Must be it's classical roots wandm :) I had no idea what the story was with this chair until I started digging into it; I always thought it was some mid-century classic and didn't quite make out the Klismos silhouette right away.
