We are truly in the throes of winter now, with drifts of snow blowing up against our homes, pathways trudged from the driveway to the front door and the silence of the dead of winter pressing down hard around us. Many homes however, are purchased in the spring and summer months, when these winter woes are just a memory. It is a good idea to consider winter when purchasing your home, for half of the year will be amidst cold and snow, wind and ice. Does your home settle in well for the colder months? Does it nestle in gracefully amidst the ice and wind? Let's take a look at a few homes that rejoice in winter.
The quiet and calm of winter seem peaceful in this modern home. With a windbreak of snow covered pines surrounding the home and banks of wide windows to absorb sunlight and show off the view, this home is a dream winter getaway. Wouldn't you love to bask in the sunlight while enjoying the views of snow covered mountains?

This landscaper has also considered winter with the use of evergreens and white birches. Both types of trees are winter stars and the contrasts play well off of the home's design.

When considering winter, a home with a mudroom is an added bonus. A place with scrubbale, water resistant flooring to shuck coats, boots and other snow gear helps keep the rest of the home sparkling clean.

Whether you are buying or upgrading your home, make sure you consider your needs throughout the year. You will spend more time in your house during the winter than in other seasons, so it should function well amidst the cold and snow. Generous amounts of windows, windbreaks and other plantings and indoor dropping stations for gear make a house much more enjoyable during the season of dormancy.
