Hallway & Stairway
The hallway physically connects two sections of the house--our common spaces with our private spaces. It is a conduit and causeway, but also an interface. I want this interface to bridge both the interior and exterior spaces--to provide a portal to interaction or a retreat from commotion. The movement between these spaces allows guests to find interaction in any of the connected common spaces, each with it's own mood ad feel.
The wide hallway and distant stairs provides a path drawing you down the hall. I like the width of the hall as it suggests a function. The overhead beams are something that can be echoed outside.
An example of a stairway at the end of the hall.
The cabinets and shelving provide a large amount of storage. Alternatively large open wall would allow for many photos.
The wide opening doors are ideal. I would like to see these open onto a deck at the same level. However, Nana doors would be impractical both in cost and structural issues.
Several doors give a different feel to the large open air feel. Multiple portals into an open space.
I like the the windows in stairwell and having the possibility of storage (coat closet or outside patio supplies) at the bottom of the stairs.
