Modern Lighting: Swinging from the Chandeliers
Houzz Contributor. Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

The other day I took a stab at modern lighting, but I didn't use half of my favorite lighting pictures here on Houzz. My absolute favorite form of lighting is the chandelier. I even try to pretend I have Mariah Carey's closet and thus installed one in my closet (Side Note: I like her CLOSET, not the butterfly sparkly too-small clothes in it).
Whether made of Swarovski crystals or pieces of scrap paper (a recent favorite was a found object chandy made on "Man Shops World"), a chandelier adds instant interest and glamour. This ideabook is just a collection of contemporary chandelier fantasies, no rules, no DOs or DON'Ts, no budget restraints:

What is this even made of? While it would be a dusting nightmare, this ethereal work of art would be worth the effort.

Holy ORANGE! What an unexpected and great contrast to the black and white room.

How elegant is it to lounge on a chaise underneath this fantastic round crystal chandelier. Again, the placement is unexpected and that is what makes it so stunning.

Crystal glamour over the kitchen island. I'm realizing that the unexpected is what I dig most about a lot of these shots!

Um, yup, unexpected placement again. Chandies are not just for huge foyers and dining rooms!

A lovely branch shape lights up this room. The great thing about this shape is that it would work everywhere from an elegant bathroom to a rustic cabin great room.

| Look closely. On the right side a low-hanging chandelier serves as an elegant bedside reading lamp. |

| Don't overlook unexpected objects for light fixtures. The coat of red paint is the perfect touch on this birdcage-shaped chandelier. |

I spied this funny found object chandelier in one of my favorite shops in Port Clyde, Maine this summer (it's called Stonefish) and I was so taken with it I had to take a shot. Unfortunately, it doesn't really go with my closet.

SEXY LEDS chandelier light bulbs last up to 20 years. And look great in luxurious chandeliers. In fact, these LED chandelier bulbs are the only energy-saving light bulbs that don't look cheap (pardon my French).
