Watery hues, indigo and denim tones relax, refine and rejuvenate your space

I love the drama and story of these recycled glass countertops from Vetrazzo. Each top is made from Skyy's signature blue vodka bottles.
In this high-drama kitchen, the glossy blue cabinets steal the show, but you could just as easily pair these Cobalt Skyy tops with natural maple to let them star on their own.

| Backsplashes are lovely in watery blue. There are several ways to achieve the look. One is with large-format field tile, as shown here. Another is with shimmering blue mosaic tiles (typically sheet-mounted for easy installation). My favorite employs a solid sheet of colored glass. (It's also the easiest to maintain and the most contemporary.) If there isn't an installer in your area who can do this, or if the cost is out of reach, the large-format tile will achieve a very comparable look. Watery blue pairs beautifully with the black, white and stainless in this kitchen, but could also work with cinnamon spice cherry, walnut or even natural maple cabinets. |

Slate is a popular kitchen and bath flooring material in many natural hues. Its blue tones, as shown here, make it especially perfect for this color trend. If you don't want to have to seal your floor, consider durable rectified porcelain tile that looks like slate. This was the choice I made for my Florida kitchen. It looks great with cinnamon or natural cherry cabinets and monochromatic neutral countertops.

Black-white checkerboard and harlequin tile patterns are classic in kitchens and baths. How about incorporating blue instead? You can go trend-friendly indigo, teal or denim to fit the trend, but be sure to pick a shade that works long-term with your space. Tile is not a quick, easy, inexpensive change out.

You're unlikely to see a blue bathtub being offered for sale. You could always have one painted, but a better way to add blue to your bath is with a soft blue-tinted tile tub surround. It can give your bath a relaxed, natural feel that ties into this cool color trend — no paint remover required.

| Sometimes, color shows up in unexpected spots, like in faucet accents, as shown in these handles with blue-green accents. Traditionally, faucets with glass handles have been ultra formal.
