Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but I think a dressing table is next in line. An organized, "well-dressed" dressing table can become a place where you spend quality time preparing for your day, primping for your night out on the town, and unwinding for the evening. Here are some great examples on how to organize your dressing table and make it work for you.

For a small dressing table, select a mirror that you can mount on the wall above, and purchase a small table lamp. This will leave you plenty of room to lay out your items.

When searching for a stand-alone dressing table, look for one that has large drawers. These will come in handy especially if you have a large collection of jewelry and makeup. You can put the items away and have enough table top space for a free-standing mirror and lighting.
If you're constructing a custom vanity with cabinetry, make sure your sitting area is at desk height, which is typically 30-40 inches. Larger vanities provide opportunities for artful display, so take advantage of the space. Organize your essentials in pretty ceramic and glass vases.

| If you have a large closet, consider integrating an island into the space. You'll be able to customize the size, tabletop material and the number of drawers. This type of structure will give you plenty of storage space for accessories and larger clothing items. |
You may be able to carve out space for a dressing table in your closet. Overhead cabinets are also a great option for storing your accessories.

| A lingerie or jewelry chest is a great piece to accompany a dressing table that is maxed out on space. This chest will also provide several compartments for additional storage without taking up much room. |

| Drawers that house velvet-lined trays are a very nice way to keep your small jewelry items organized and in good condition. You can also purchase trays separately. Just be sure to measure your drawer size (particularly the height) before you head out to the store. You don't want to come home with a tray that doesn't fit.
