Every once in a while, I take a stroll through the photos of ceilings here on Houzz, just to see what's out there. Well, I guess it had been a while because there are a ton of rooms with really cool, innovative ceilings.
In most houses the ceilings are an afterthought at best, but after my tour through Houzz, I couldn't help but wonder: Are ceilings the new floors? Instead of worrying about what we walk on, are we thinking more about what frames the space above our heads?
If so, I think it's great. Check out some of what I found:

Skylights can be a pain, I know - if they're not installed correctly they can leak and that is a nightmare. But when they are done right, they're fantastic - like in this sun-drenched space.

I think tin ceilings are absolutely amazing - I love them in bars and restaurants and I really love them in this bright space. It feels unexpected, since I usually think of them in dark pubs, but it really works.

The ceiling is indeed an often neglected surface, design-wise. One of the things I like most in our current home are the ceilings - whitewashed tongue & groove and real load carrying beams. Gonna miss those in our next home!
And Becky - totally jealous. I loved the show, at least partly because I loved the space!

I'm working on a dining room project and kinds hit a wall (well a ceiling, really) about what to do with the ceiling. Walls are a rich Stark blue above chair rail and a golden grasscloth w/ damask pattern below-casual traditional. Any tips for how to select colors for ceilings?
