19 lantern lighting options for every style and budget
Since I've been on a quest to find the perfect lantern pendants for my kitchen, I thought it would be fun to put together a collection of some of the best on the web. I love that lanterns — although often thought of as traditional — can work well in almost any decor.
I'm a fan of the lantern pendant for its open, casual style and the statement it can make in a room, especially when painted in a fun color. As this ideabook proves, there's a lantern perfect for every style and every budget. — Emily from Emily A. Clarke

Framed Linen Shade Lantern
I like this more modern version of a lantern pendant. Plus, the shade is a nice feature when you want to diffuse the glare that sometimes comes along with open styles. This pendant's sleek style would work well in a more minimalist space.
Antique Copper 4-Light Chandelier
At about $150 and almost 24 inches tall, this lantern gives you a lot of bang for your buck. I've seen similar versions sold for nearly twice the price.
Modern Chandeliers
This lantern has more traditional lines, and the open top is an interesting feature. It's also a larger size, making it perfect for a grand entryway.
The Rothesay Lantern
This large lantern will make a big statement in any space. I love that it comes in custom colors, letting you put a vibrant yellow (or red, or green, etc.) on a traditional design.
Clear Glass Lantern with 3 Light Cluster
This one is geometric, funky and fabulous! I love the pattern on this lantern, and I bet the reflections on the walls at night are pretty cool. I would use this as the centerpiece of a modern bedroom as the "wow factor."
Cranbrook Large Lantern
I like the traditional charm of this lantern from Ralph Lauren Home. It reminds me of a barn light, and it would be great in a farmhouse kitchen or dining area.
Ardmore Lantern
I love the curve of this lantern. The round glass almost makes it feel like it has a clear drum shade. It would be perfect in the center of a casual living room.
Corfu Lantern
This style reminds me of a birdcage — in a good way. I'm also a fan of the weathered finish.
Small Morris Hanging Lantern
This octogonal lantern is unique, modern and a little gothic. I would hang this smaller style in pairs or sets of three down a hallway.
Stanyan Lantern
The shape of this lantern makes it perfect for hanging over a kitchen island or rectangular dining table. I like that it's casual enough for informal spaces. I also think it would be pretty fantastic painted!
World Imports Lighting 61404-42 Hastings 4-light Lantern, Rust
I used this lantern in my last home's breakfast nook, and it gave it some rustic charm. It comes in different sizes and is a great value for the price.
Oxford Pendant by Hudson Valley, Old Bronze
I like the rounded, cathedral-like top on this pendant. It has lots of Old World charm without being too fussy.
Pagoda Lantern
Pagoda lanterns are some of my favorites, and this one would add a touch of whimsy to any space. And it comes in two great colors.
Glass Tulip Lantern
This tulip-shaped lantern is blooming with style! I'm a fan of its unique shape and delicate appearance.
Crystorama Antique White Lantern Pendant Chandelier
This dressed-up version of a lantern would be perfect for a little girl's room. The crystal florets and smaller scale give it a delicate look.
Fitzjames Mayfair Four-Light Lantern
The larger scale of this lantern (almost 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall) is sure to make a grand statement. It's perfect for a tall ceiling or grand foyer.
Chadbourne Polished Nickel Four-Light Pendant
When a modern lantern and a chandelier meet, this is what you get. I like the sophistication that the shades give this pendant, and I think it would work well in a glamorous dining space.
Currey & Company Spyro Foyer Lantern
This funky take on the traditional lantern is a great conversation piece. The geometric detail reminds me of a maze. It could work in the most modern of rooms or entryways.
Eufaula Lantern Chandelier
This lantern has tons of industrial charm. I love that it has a lot of rustic appeal but still keeps clean, modern lines. I envision this in a beach house.
