I live in a loft in Brooklyn, a recent transplant to Greenpoint (love my neighborhood!). I work as a freelance writer, blogger, stylist, gilder, and crafter. I curate a daily personal lifestyle blog called the Haystack Needle (http://www.thehaystackneedleonline.com). I'm also one half of the shop Cabin 7 (http://www.shopcabin7.com) — a collection of gilded objects for the home. I started out in magazines, working in the home department of Real Simple magazine and later worked as the home editor of Redbook. I love to scout cool finds for the home — everything from an amazing loveseat to a green laundry detergent that really works. In most homes, the kitchen is the heart of the action. Stools are the perfect laid-back seat to pull up to the counter or island and hang out while the cook in the family whips up a meal. So many elements of a kitchen are often neutral — black granite countertops, stainless appliances, wood or white painted cabinets, subway backsplash. Choosing a color for your kitchen stools turns them into a bright accent against all the neutrals. Green. This kitchen has a lot of wood cabinetry — you see the same color wood from ceiling to the floor. The green stools add personality.

Tip: Before you buy stools for your kitchen counter or island, be sure to measure your counter height. You want to be sure to leave space for knees to comfortably fit underneath the countertop. |
