I live in a loft in Brooklyn, a recent transplant to Greenpoint (love my neighborhood!). I work as a freelance writer, blogger, stylist, gilder, and crafter. I started out in magazines, working in the home department of Real Simple magazine and later worked as the home editor of Redbook. Jen, I love the colorways in the photos, especially that first one.
Rebkot, here's a suggestion for a solution to changing your color choice with tiles-try a faux glass mosaic wallcovering that can be installed by you without use of glue or paste, can be repositioned to get it just exactly aligned, and can be removed without damage to your wall and stored for reuse at a later date.

I just have never been able to bring myself to use colored tiles. My feeling is you can always add color with accessories but that tile....which may be hip today, is going to be on the "rip it out" list before you know it. I do love the look....but my bet is to stay with the basics and add the personality and color later.

my contractor grouted my beautiful glass/stone/metal kitchen backsplash and it lost all its shine and is very dull,did he do something wrong?? I am so diappointed..It did not seem to happen in these beautiful photos!!

loricola, yes he did something wrong if it had a shine prior to grouting. Sounds like the grout haze was not wiped off. Try scrubbing a spot, see if you can tell if there is a grout residue. if so, then look for an acid-product sold to remove a grout haze like this. I saw this for sale at Lowes, right by the mastic and grout. Actually you should call the contractor about it.
