A crackling fire in an outdoor firepit adds an irresistible allure to the evening garden like no other garden feature. Whether it reminds you of camping in the woods or just brings out the romantic in you, it’s the perfect accessory for both large and small outdoor spaces. With one caveat: forget wood. Wood smoke pollutes the air and can cause asthma attacks. For a built-in firepit, the best solution is to run a natural gas line to it. The firepits below show a range of styles. If you already own a portable firepit, consider purchasing a clean-burning alcohol-based gel fuel insert.

breathecleanair Thank you for telling people not to burn wood! Wood smoke pollution is implicated in many cancers including breast cancer, diabetes type 2, cardiovascular disease, Parkinson's disease, and global warming. These beautiful alternatives to wood burning show homeowners a way to have the pleasures of a fire with none of the downside.

tersiamarshall I love the tabletop firepit, very inviting, talking point and when not used for fire can be covered with similar concrete slab and used to serve food dishes from, mmmh, will have to chat to hubby about this idea
