Unique Centerpiece Ideas
Houzz Contributor. Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

Ah the centerpiece. Sometimes you just don't have the time, money, or motivation to run to the flower shop to grab a bouquet. Sometimes you are trying to stretch one $4.99 Trader Joe's bouquet as far as possible. Sometimes you are running around your yard or a park trying to surreptitiously clip anything that can fit in a vase.
Other ideas include grabbing a few vases in the same color but in a variety of shapes. Try the same thing with a grouping of candle holders. A tall vase full of fruit can work, or a simple branch or two from the yard in an unexpectedly tall size can give your guests a wow. Try lining up a few ceramic tchotchkes you forgot your owned. In short, grab whatever you can. Take a look at some dining rooms where thought was put into some unusual and beautiful centerpieces now so that you can have these images somewhere in the back of your mind when you are rifling through your cabinets before your next party.

An interesting grouping of vases and/or candlesticks can be arranged in an interesting way.
An interesting bowl can make a statement, especially when you are just putting out something for staging, to enjoy all day and not necessarily for one dinner party.

I love these cheerful and colorful pears all in a row.
You can always find a candleabra to match...the motorcycle?!?!?!
Pussy willow branches and bell jars look great with the glass chandelier.
A few forced blooms from spring branches will grab attention.

A line of tall, single blooms along the table is a good way to literally stretch a bouquet!
I do like the punch of these two sculptural arrangements.
A simple orchid will last you for months.

Because these are all white, they work very well in this arrangement.

Susan Nowell @ My Place to Yours Great topic, Becky! I often do "no flower" tablescapes. Here's a pic of one of I did just a few days ago to celebrate the 100th Tablescape Thursday at the blog, Between Naps on the Porch. Three cut crystal bowls anchor the table -- and not a fresh flower in sight! To see the rest of the table, visit my blog at www.myplacetoyours.blogspot.com --Susan @ My Place to Yours

Global Living I love orchids. A lot of people underestimate the big impact a simple orchid can make. They also pack a lot of value in a tiny size. Far cheaper than flowers, but last a lot longer.

The Welcome Home: Interior Design Solutions When I stage a vacant home, I need to create centerpieces that will last a long time with no maintenance. I love sculptural branches, clusters of candles or simple cylinder vases filled with fake fruit "vase filler". It is a great way to add drama or a pop of color that you can enjoy for a long time. I don;t limit centerpieces to the dining room either. They work well on coffe tables, console tables and more (at what point do they just become "tablescapes"?)I have a ton of examples on my web site www.interiordesignsolutionsmaryland.com
