In general, yes there is a difference between indoor and outdoor tile. Outdoor tile needs to withstand the elements, so it is much stronger. An example is pool tile which is a high fired porcelain. When in doubt, ask the salesperson to look up the suitability for your application.

okiefarmer, good point about the cleaning. Vacuuming the stone would probably work pretty well. Sorry, I am not familiar with outdoor building materials and issues.
I'm also looking for the brand/manufacturer of the tile in this master which seems to be "semi-stacked":
