Sometimes music in the home means someone rolling up to the piano like Elton John and filling your house with great music. Other times it's suffering through a kid squeaking on a clarinet as they dedicate themselves to practice. Either way, it contributes to the ambiance. Even when these instruments are not in use, they can still contribute to a home's ambiance. Whether you have a big open space that can fit a grand piano or you're just looking for a shelf to place your trumpet, musical instruments can play a very interesting part in interior design.

Observation: As I cruised Houzz for pictures of rooms with instruments in them, a surprising amount of the rooms included an Eames Lounge Chair. The curved wood on this chair's frame goes well with the curves of a guitar and a the curves of a piano.

| Did Junior find out playing drums wasn't all he'd dreamed after a few months? That's okay. While he moves onto bass guitar, move the drums into the living room and turn them into coffee tables. Also, just be grateful you don't have to listen to that racket anymore. |

I think these drum set silhouettes are brilliant (and much quieter than the real thing). This room definitely has a musical theme going through it, and it works, especially because the color palette seems to have been inspired by that fun rug.

| Something about seeing a keyboard in a crisp white room like this makes the theme song from Miami Vice go through my head. I mean that as a compliment – that was still one of the greatest TV Theme Songs of all time (Sanford and Son is still the best one and Friends is the all-time worst, but I digress.). |

Clearly these people love music and want to show that through their home decor. You can't help but smile at this fun band on the run ... up the stairs.
I had a chance to interview this designer, and it turns out the piano was sort of a last-minute hand-me-down addition. Luckily, we've established that pianos and Eames Lounge chairs go together, and now you can see that pianos and zebra-print Aalto chairs aren't too shabby a pair either!
