Houzz is the new way to design your home.
Paul B. Showers
I've restored several historic properties and have served on the Historic Preservation Commission for our National Historic District community for many years, most of those years as chairman. Architecture and design have fascinated me for as long as I can recall. As a youth I played museum rather than house. I currently reside in a 1786 vernacular brick farmhouse which I have restored as many of the remaining original features as well as updated with compatible elements.

Reminds me of my Aunt & Uncle's Bellport, NY home.
Warm, layered, inviting with a blend of all the elements one would want in a casual space. Love the staging but the lovely bucket of flowers on the coffee table really inhibits conversation. Shift the bucket to a stool between the window and the patio doors and the room scores an A+
Another view reinforcing my point about the flowers on the coffee table. It also gives a great visual demonstration of the skill of the designer from the creative lamp shade to the mix of collected items.
How do you get lucky enough to find a pair of ice cream makers to create those lamps?! I have a porch column in my living room that has a cottage doll house on it. It always evokes positive comments. The hand that created this room in my opinion achieved the perfect blend of shabby and crisp elements that make for great comfort.
When the family dog is content everybody is content. Thru all of her photos I've found that this designer could design, select or provide lighting for me.
Totally staged but great use for the wonderful workbench.
Everyone will instantly be in a good mood when they see the art work. The designer describes this home as a modest sized home and pied-a-terre. Seems a bit large as I'm accustomed to NYC and Parisian pied-a-terre spaces but it's charming.
Talk about "Drama". In spades!
Great architecture framing the view. The neutral walls and trim frame the antiques and plush furnishings. A perfectly punctuated room.
Flawless blend of rustic and plush. Relaxing, easy on the eye and comfortable.
Love the intimacy of multiple seating and conversation areas. The reclaimed beams and lumber in contrast to the crisp while architectural appointments suggest a period space rich in history.
Currently Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are in the Bat Cave.
All of my favorite elements, subtle color, texture, a variety of materials and above all comfort.
Proving once again that blue and white never goes out of style.
This room has that "Old boy's club" feel My grandfather had a rook he called his "hide and tail" room where he kept his favorite things. The sofa had the same fringe and there was nearly the same level of accessorization. (read collected things) Very comfortable.
Respecting the character while adding comfort.
