like even though it is "modern"; Certainly the full-height glazing for this house makes it fit the modern bill, but one detail made me a tad doubtful: the wood columns are quite different than the steel predominantly used with glass-box houses. Nevertheless, the wood is exposed structure, just like in modern houses by Mies van der Rohe and others with exposed steel, so I'm keeping it in the modern category.
In this example, a cased opening is created by using the same trim on the sides and on the top of the doorway. In a window application, a "picture frame" effect is created by using the same profile all around (top, bottom and sides). - THINK HOW MUCH THIS WOULD CHANGE THE FEEL OF OUR 'OPENINGS'! sink and faucet; also WINDOW CASING;Having a nice, deep sill to place objects on is an advantage to casing a window with distinct pieces. And the horizontal piece below the stool (shelf), called the apron, can be shaped and sized as you like. The stool can be shallow or deep, depending on what you'd like to place there and you're overall design.
Here is yet another example of a picture window above the sink. Plenty more glass is found to the left and right, but the operable windows are located by the sink to offer ventilation
It's clear that this picture window brings in lots of daylight, aided by the clerestory that straddles the fixed and operable windows below. While more traditional than the previous example, note how the windows extend close to the floor, making the wall almost completely glazed.
Another casing-less treatment, this lovely window/door-scape takes a traditional use of materials and translates them into a more modern look. The horizontal rectangles of glass are larger and more open than in the previous photo, which opens up the room further to the outside while still retaining a classic feel.
Having continuous corner windows expands views, increases light and makes for an extraordinary architectural detail. If you want a full-glazed room, Marvin now offers a venting picture window with a patented hidden screen system that allows it to open evenly on all sides for air exchange and cross breezes, when aligned with other windows.
This kitchen-window trio employs a central fixed picture window flanked by two operable casement windows to bring in some breeze with that view.

Translucent fiberglass Kalwall panels on the exterior add a soft glow to the interior during the day. "The quality of the daylight is heavenly," says Carver. Interior lighting at night showcases the timber barn structure as a sophisticated and subtle surprise.

Open shelves are equal parts practical and pretty. An open china hutch filled with useful and pretty items is so much more relaxed than the typical glass-front version. White wall cladding gives the entire space a fresh cottage look, and baskets of bountiful produce on display are a welcoming touch.
Get cozy with a woodstove. Nothing else can match the homey comfort of a blazing fire in a woodstove. Just add thick socks, a good book and a mug of hot tea or cider, and you won't be able to resist relaxing for a spell.
Hang pots and expose beams to add space overhead. There is something so comforting about the clatter of pots in an overhead rack — and this setup is a great space saver, to boot. Exposing beams creates a higher ceiling, which can make even a small kitchen feel more spacious.
Lighten up with the perfect white wall color. Using lots of white is a great way to open up a space and make the most of the light — but it can be surprisingly hard to choose just the right shade. All the walls and ceilings in the space featured here were done in White Dove from Benjamin Moore, a clean and crisp white that looks great in natural light.
Add history to a new build with sliding barn doors. If you wish you lived in a rambling old farmhouse but must make do with a plain-Jane contemporary home, consider adding a salvaged wood barn door — this one modification can change the look and feel of your entire house.

custom knotty pine barn doors were used in Luke's room.
This is their son Luke's room, and it's also part of a new addition. Knotty pine floors have cottage style and keeps things light, as do the white horizontal planks on the walls. The barn door is a new addition that enhances the farmhouse style throughout the house. They found the door track hardware at Barn Door Hardware. DYING FOR ONE OF THESE DOORS!!
runner, bench with cushion, upholstered chairs at end, rug, tin wallpaper ceiling (!) = cozy space for dining.
The walls are covered with horizontal pine planks
A built-in stack of shelves makes use of a narrow space next to the cast iron tub in the guest hall bath. A hinged three-quarter glass door keeps the tub open and airy with no track to clean. Fixtures, tub, sink, tub door, vanity countertop: Supply New England; tile: Cloutier Supply
The crisp white paint and cohesive finishes help achieve a timeless and seamless look throughout the house. The kitchen and all of the full baths have the same cabinet style, beadboard molding, brushed-nickel drawer pulls and subway wall tile. The same floor tile is also used in all of the baths. ; also like walls in this bathroom
