Stairs
Stairs usually lead to the more private areas of the home, the bedrooms. I dislike that most home staircases originate in the entry or in the public sitting area. I think they should open into the heart of the house.

I like the semi-open nature of the stairs as they divide the dining room and the living room.

I like the combination of the light paint and the dark wood. That alone would make this staircase light and inviting. The visual details in the banister plus the colorful artwork, glass balls, and windows make this staircase a great place stop and sit, and a place to look out at the world.

Wow. A visual experience from teh stairs. I think this would always make you pause to look out at the windows before you went down the stairs.
For my house I like the color on the stairs, but not the zig-zag. It would mess with my depth perception too much.

Stairs are a showpiece as well as a transition and an invitation

Stairs are not directly in the entry, but provide a lovely focal point. Love the dark wood, white and light blue colors together.

Playhouse nook under the stairs... could then be a library nook or homework nook in later years

Great mix of modern and traditional. Still feel cozy, but new. Chair is pretty interesting, not sure if I'd like to sit in it or not. I"d probably do something more cozy there.

Beautiful curves and iron work. Love the white fore-faces and the dark wood step-faces and the carpet in the center lends warmth. Very beautiful yet very inviting.
