An Architect's perspective: color is your friend.

Often people assume architects just deliver the bones of a house. In fact, we layer on the aesthetic that makes a home happy, modern or traditional, and personal. From tile selection, paint colors, counters and light fixtures, we design the whole package to give homeowners a holistic feel.

COLOR: I think our population has been misguided by the drive for resale. We think beige, taupe, off-white, cream, and blah are the only ways to live. Granted, oftentimes, white on white is a classic, clean look. When appropriately personal, color used in the architectural design, the bones, of your home can have a glorious impact on how we live!

Beginning with the exterior...COLOR clad window sashes blend well with the natural shades of green.

This exterior is a lovely example of how tonal base color with a complementary splash on the door easily raises the level of thought and beauty in this design.

There are so many beautiful tiles! I am a tile junky...especially recycled glass. This client was an avid collector of Fiesta Ware and we decided to go for a tonal approach in backsplash and floors to set off the multiple colors in the pottery.

More glass tile! Playing on the 1960's mid-century modern aesthetic of this home, we chose a warm and fun color palette.

In the utility room adjacent to the kitchen, we played with the same color palette in a different, more utilitarian way. The upper cabinets were custom painted to match the tile and the bottom cabinets are laminate rather than the high gloss in the kitchen. The counters are a recycled content laminate in the same brown family.

Another, perhaps less permanent, place to add color is in your countertops. This material is Chroma by 3-Form which comes in several really great colors.

This custom color concrete counter is another way to achieve a great splash of color.

Doors are another simple way to add color. I think we often forget that the door can be more than just a door. This sliding barn doors and the wall are painted in a series of fun, thoughtful and complementary colors to turn this potentially boring hallway into an emotional experience.
