Let's face it. There are few tasks in this world as mundane as doing the laundry. And to make matters worse, many of us have to trek down to the dark, dank basement to accomplish the task. No windows, bad lighting, the occasional spider...it's no wonder doing the laundry isn't up there on our list of leisure-time activities. But it could be.

Leah Bonk I wish this report was two weeks from now. I'm getting my laundry room finished as I write this and it's almost complete!! I got a lot of inspiration from Houzz.com. In fact, searching for laundry rooms on line was how I found this amazing website.

Sesshu Design Associates, Ltd really great examples here! it is so true that making the space bright and inviting completely changes your attitude towards washing clothes. I often make the laundry room a multi-functional space for my clients if possible - crafts, gift wrapping, a desk area, etc are all perfect complements to creating a useful room that does double duty

Pam Maybe it's because I've only one child left at home, but I'm beginning to think a laundry (stackable or otherwise) near the bath and the closet is an example of good design. And if it was a multi-functional type laundry...even better.

Artisan Kitchens LLC I wish this ideabook was later as well! I recently designed a special custom laundry for someone with very specific requirements - she prefers to hang items to air-dry - so I designed both a unique adjustable rod system for draping, as well as roll-out drawers with mesh bottoms for drying sweaters. The project isn't complete enough to photograph yet but I will when it's done!

jeg700 700 my bathroom is also my laundry room, so I am inspired to make it fun rather than just functional. a little whimsy goes a long way when decorating this type of room in the one and only bathroom of a small home. I will post pics when it's done.

Roseanna Our laundry room functions as a pantry also. My husband built cabinetry to match the kitchen and we included a large broom/vacuum closet. On the left are glassed upper cabinets and a long counter with three deep drawers beneath. On the right, washer, dryer and deep sink. For whimsy, on the cabinets above I had custom dictionary definitions for each door...laundry, pantry, utility and sink.

ejinsa Can someone tell me how to make the pattern in the subway tiles show up like that? I wanted my shower to look like that but, the tile setter used bright white grout and now it just looks generic. Is it the grout; is there a decorating term for this or, is it just lighting???

sylps i have a space to put my washer/dryer which is 7 ft by4 ft.... i need to fit in my brooms buckets etc... can anyone give me any ideas to fit all in neatly pls?

grandmultipara My bathroom renovation began when I decided to move the washer and dryer upstairs. I can stash the Rowenta steam-generating iron and board behind the screen when company calls, but often leave it set up so I can iron by the window. I leave a collapsible mesh laundry hamper from IKEA in each BR so laundry never piles up in the bathroom. The curved double shower rod holds hanger clothes as I iron. (We stole closet space from an adjoining BR for the laundry alcove.)

grandmultipara Oops! sorry for the duplicate. Here are more photos to make up for it. The vintage door plaque, shower curtain and wallpaper on window wall inspired the theme and everything else fell into place! I added b/w floor tiles above previously white-tiled tub area and to fill in the space where we replaced the tub. Storage tower is from IKEA. Complementary wallpaper, fixtures, etc. from LOWE's. I just need to buy fluffy white towels and I'm done!
