I don't know about your neck of the woods, but down here in Birmingham, Alabama, winter seems to have gone missing. I've spent more days in T-shirts than in sweaters, and we have yet to get the annual dusting of snow that shuts down the city and sends us scampering to clean the stores out of bread and milk. Not to mention that the daffodils in my backyard started blooming before Valentine's Day!
This beautiful weather has me thinking ahead to spring decorating in my house, and I'm taking my cue from sprightly yellow daffodil blossoms. Consider the source. It's said that colors found together in nature will go together in decorating, and I can't think of a better example than daffodils. Their kelly green and lemon yellow — two saturated, happy hues — are made for each other.

Doesn't this slice of citrus put you in a good mood? I see another fun pop of color every time I look at it — from the lemon-yellow stair treads to the lime-green corbels under the cabinets. Separating the colors with white helps keep them from fighting each other and overwhelming the space.

The green and yellow touches in this cheery bedroom are minimal, but they make their presence felt. The pillows add life to an otherwise neutral space, and I love the way the grid of artwork above the bed pulls the kelly green upward. Also, because of the yellow notes, the drapery and bedskirt fabric reads more gold than brown.

Casart Coverings Yesterday, I was surrounded by gobs of green, yellow, and purple...the colors of Mardi Gras. The Queen of Carnival always has a bouquet of daffodils and violets with dark green accent foliage. It's especially appropriate since daffodils and forsythia are the two flowers that seem to herald the approach of spring.
