Universal Accessible Wetrooms
Bring the outdoors in with a flat open floor plan through the use of the trench drain system and river rock.
The open stool area provides a secondary place to sit, can be moved out of the way for someone who has their own chair, and can be used in other areas of the bath. If going with glass this large, make sure it is the kind that can be easily removed or folded if some-one has short or long term need for more space getting in and out or assistance in the bath.
A wetroom bathroom designed with American tastes in mind- a typical shower curtain, mixed use materials, and pillars on either side of the sink that "disguise" the open nature of under the sink.
Features for beauty, dignity and independence for all in the bathroom: zero step entry, built in seating, multiple showers with handheld shower, multi-height niches next to the seat, built in steam shower. (Note some of the layout I would change for best use of the space.)
The trench drain gives great flexibility in this bathroom. Seating by the non-invasive glass wall provides comfort for anyone. Narrow flooring reduces slippage.
Notice the layout of the shower and toilet- it takes little space, keeps wide-open areas for mobility, and does not set up for water to spray all over. A great example of a universal, accessible aka Design for Life bathroom!
Great features of the zero step bathroom: no danger 1" curb at the edge of the shower, smaller tile on the floor by the shower, large entry into the shower area, controls with table that are outside of the bath itself.
T inverted T grab bar and larger built in bench with smaller tile say "great design" not "disabled." Many of the features could be mimicked in other styles using different colors.
The bench enables moveable seating without getting in the way. Open shelving for the sink allows someone to sit underneath for comfort. With and enclosed area for privacy, you can bring the outdoors inside into the bathroom.
Sliding drawers hidden behind a waterproof wall with a long easy handle makes perfect storage for a bathroom that anyone can use easily.
Water activated LED lighting in the trench drain provides beauty, interest, visual marker, and an upgrade to the feature of a curbless shower.
So many great features in this bathroom: folding teak seating, trench drain for curbless shower, LED light for interest and visual acuity, high end grab bars don't look at all institutional, multiple controls for the shower and steam.
